Sigurdur Ragnar Petursson, M.D.Sigurdur Ragnar Petursson, M.D., received his medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in Rochester, NY. He completed an internship in medicine and a junior and senior residency program in medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Presbyterian University Hospital. In addition, Dr. Petursson completed a fellowship in hematology/oncology in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Petursson completed a fellowship in bone marrow transplantation at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, WA.Dr. Petursson is a member of several professional and scientific societies, including the Pennsylvania Oncologic Society and the Histiocyte Society. He has received numerous honors and awards including the American Medical Association Physician's Recognition Award and the Preceptorship Award from the American College of Physicians for a community based teaching project. Dr. Petursson has authored more than 50 publications and has given more than 100 lectures and scientific presentations in the United States. He has also received eight scientific grants. Dr. Petursson currently serves as an associate member of the Pittsburgh Cancer Institute and a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. In addition, he is a preceptor for the first and second year medical student office practice externship at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and for the Cornell University Extern Program.
